I'm having a nice leisurely morning before I head off for my overnighter in Hiroshima with the girls. I woke up a little later than usual, had a lovely shower, and was just about to start drying my hair, when...the doorbell rang. Now, I'm normally a doorbell ignorer, because I am trying to avoid the NHK man for the full 2 years (the person who wants to collect like a TV license fee from you...and I don't want to pay it!). But this morning, when I heard the bell, I thought I had better answer it, because I am expecting a package or 2 from England. So, I rushed to the door...with my wet hair, slippers and bath-robe....and ..there's a Japanese woman stood their, with a young girl (who turns out to be her daughter, and goes to Kuka High School..not one of mine thank god!). Their faces were quite the picture, when I opened the door, and they saw my non-Japanese face! They looked so confused, embarrassed...scared!! The woman started a conversation with me, basically asking if I could speak Japanese, was I an English teacher, where did I teach, how long have I been in japan. So I stand there trying my best to keep up with her Japanese, and trying to work out what they actually want, and who they are!! After a 5 minute conversation, lots of shy smiles, and plenty of 'sumimasens', they finally left! I still have no idea who the heck they were, what they wanted, or who they were actually looking for...Oh well...the early morning Japanese practise was good!
