The snow arrived!

Snow!

I woke up this morning a little chillier than usual...in fact, I could actually see my own breath inside my apartment! I knew something was wrong! I shimmied (is that a word?) out of my sleeping bag, threw off my duvet, and my blanket (count how many layers I sleep under!)...and with trepidation I opened my bedroom curtains. SNOW!! Not loads of it, but enough to give the rooftops a nice blanket, and enough to make me dread the walk I had to make to Yanai train station! Today I am at a school in neighbouring town, Tabuse. I come here every Tuesday, and I have to get the train at 8am to get here on time. That means leaving my apartment at 7.30 in order to walk into town, stop by Seven-Eleven to buy my lunch, and then catch the train. Normally this is no problem, and although I hate waking up early, and leaving my apartment when it's still quite dark outside, the walk wakes me up, and I always (apart from one time when I overslept!) manage to catch the train on time. Today, I did it by the skin of my teeth!! I hadn't thought about the extra time it would take to walk on ice for most of my journey, so I skidded, and slipped, tottered, and tangoed with the icy snow..and finally made it to the station with a minute to spare. Perhaps I should have sacrificed the hair straightening this morning for a few extra minutes of safe walking! When I arrived at school, a couple of girls (who I have taught once or twice) were stood on the path making a snow Mickey Mouse! It was actually quite impressive, and a nice change from the traditional snowman. So school is cold today, and its still snowing...there have been 2 emergency meetings for teachers already...to let us know about delayed trains, exam rearrangments etc etc, and everyone is walking around muttering "samui" (cold!). I have one more lesson, and then I'm off home...fingers crossed that the trains are still running!
