A great read!

No not my blog!!...I’m actually talking about ‘Hokkaido Highway Blues’ by Will Ferguson. I bought it a couple of weeks ago, and have been ploughing through it in spare moments at school. I don’t really think I’m supposed to read a book at my desk, as I hardly look like I’m hard at work! But, I cunningly hold a poised pencil as I read, and so I look like I’m studying, rather than just enjoying a good book! The book is about the author’s travels from the South of Kyushu (the most southern part of Japan), all the way up to the north of Hokkaido. He follows the spread of the cherry blossoms in spring, by hitchhiking the length of Japan. It’s a great book, and his observations are often spot-on. In fact, he sometimes recalls an incident or an anecdote, which is so similar to my experiences, that I find myself chuckling in the middle of the solemn staffroom! If anyone is interested in Japanese life, then I would highly recommend this book. And for anyone who has visited Japan (Paul!), I think you would find it an amusing and insightful read. Ok…book review over!
