The 100 yen shop...a cavern of dreams!
Just a quick note to say what a 100 yen shop is! It’s basically like a pound shop… only cheaper! 100yen = about 50p. However, unlike pound shops at home, 100 yen shops are amazing places…like a lot of the stuff in there, is stuff that you want to buy! They have amazing stationery, great crockery and household bits (perfect for making my apartment a bit more….me!), and even wooden Japanese toys and games! Of course there is some tat in there as well, and some weird stuff (in my local 100 yen shop there is a whole aisle of support bandages!!!...exactly how many aches can one person have?)…but in general it’s just a really useful, wonderful place. I go in to buy some coloured card for school, and I come out with some new plates and a mini zen garden ; I go in for envelopes, and I leave with coat-hangers, fleecy socks, and glass tumblers! But hey…it’s all 50p, and it’s all helping me to live the Japanese dream!
